Is Wank Really A Sound Effect?

sound effectsAnother problem area for copyrighted audio is sound effects. Many companies are very possessive about their sounds. But I found a wonderful site where you can find quite a few of the effects you might need - all for free. And free is great! Here's the About section of the SoundBible web site

About SoundBible.com

SoundBible.com offers thousands of free sound effects, sound clips, and straight up sounds. These sounds can be used in a variety of sound projects including Video Sound Scores, Movie Scoring, Game Design, Powerpoint Presentations, Prank Calls, Sound Boards, and the list goes on. SoundBible.com is a great source for copyright free sounds.

Why are these sounds free?

Well for a few reasons really.
  • Our project benefits teachers, students, faculty, and starving artist. They couldn't afford to buy them so we are forced to give them away for free. :)
  • The Royalty Free Sounds section consist of Creative Commons and Public Domain works
  • The owners of SoundBible.com where taught to share by their parents. Isn't that what your parents taught you?
  • Because Free is way cooler than Fee. That one letter "r" makes a world of difference

Can these sounds be used commercially?

The Royalty Free Sounds can indeed be used for commercial uses. The free sounds can only if they are under the Creative Commons Attribution, or Public Domain License.

If you are like us and think this is a great concept please be sure to share us!

I've looked through part of their library and it contains quite a bit of what I'll be using in the motion comic I'm doing [ after the vacation video is done ].

The Licenses

Royalty Free Sounds are sounds that are free from royalties. They can be used commercially in things like movies, games, and anything else you might need a cool sound for. You may not however redistribute them for a profit. While sending one to a friend is ok, selling one to a customer is not.

Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 is one of many CC Audio types. Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 put simply means you can use this audio but you must attribute your work to this person. If the audio is from Mike Koenig then you need to give him credit somewhere. That somewhere could be in the credits, the cd cover, or a link to the sounds page from your site.

Public Domain Sounds are sounds that have been added to the public domain. They are owned by the public, and are 100% free. Items get added to the PD in a variety of different ways. 1.) Items older than the public domain age setting are automatically added. 2.)Thoughtful members of the audio community donate their own works for the good of others. 3.) Speeches by presidents and other political audio is usually considered public domain works.
